Default Swords more than just a cutting utensil.

So while the gun is certainly the modern sword the fact remains it needs complex ammo which the sword needs sharpening. So as I build a home defense/ post Zombie Apocalypse kit I feel the need for a good sword in there and I mean a real fully battle worthy sword. I don't want to spend over $200. Ideas?

You want a battle ready sword, but don't want to spend over $200?

What, pray tell, is your life worth in a Zombie situation?

Finding a "battle ready" sword is going to be hard enough. With flimsy, or dodgy, steels being stamped out of who knows what, and half tang handles that are pinned on with whatever fits the cost column I would be hard pressed to offer anything that wasn't a "true" sword from a reputable maker.

Those makers are few and they charge considerably for their services.

We have discussed this very application on several occasions and there is always a consensus that most sword offerings wont fit the bill because they are too big, too bulky and a horrible weapon choice in close quarters situations.

One thing that several of us have agreed upon though is that a heavy, stout blade designed to inflict maximum trauma would fit both the survival and close quarters needs.

The Kukri fits this need in spades.

I had some pictures of one I designed, but not on this laptop. I'll see if I can find them and post them up.

The Kukri House is the company Benning and I went through and they treated us really well. We got custom made blades, to our specs, for about $70-$75 each and that includes the expensive shipping from Nepal to the US.

More to follow

Found them. Here is the kukri I designed and the damage I was able to do with it.

The wood is about a 6" by 8" cross arm that goes on power poles and us used to hold heavy power lines.

I kinda like a machete...

That way it can still preform mundane jobs in-between slayings.

He's right.

This kuk has leveled trees, chipped away an icy sidewalk, there's nothing it can't do.

Swords, you want carbon steel only, stainless is junk.

Google Kult of Athena, and seek "Battle Ready".

Completely unrelated side note. Hallucinogens are bad for you, just sayin.

I've got swords, collected for some time now, and these guys are the best online. The inspect each piece before it goes out, their ship time is ridiculously fast.

You may want to look into an ax or halberd instead. To truly use a sword it takes a long time of practice, and the build of the sword decides the style of use. An ax, however, can just be swung and it'll get whatever needs to be done done. A halberd similarly so, but with the addition of being able to stab and having that extra range.
