Storing Autos/ Assisted Openers
I read somewhere thatout the front autos should be stored in "neutral", and leaf or coil spring autos should be stored open. I've not seen anything on assisted openers.
Isn't it the constant opening/closing that would wear out a spring? |
I would have to say yes. All of my "autos" where shipped in one condition, that has always been closed, no blade exposed. That is the way I leave them. After all, when they leave the factory they have no idea how long it's going to sit on a shelf at XYZ Knife Wholesale before a customer gets and uses it. *shrug*
Never had one fail yet.... JD |

The moment arm of the assisted opener spring isn't significant to cause failure as designed. I would guess the six sigma is off the chart. A typical owner would have a hard time wearing that spring out in 10 lifetimes! Or in other terms; MTBF = life x 10. http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/v.../lmao_text.gif |
