Should I clean my knife?
Just cut a squirrel tail off with my EDC knife. Think I should clean it now? There's no fur or blood or anything on it, it's just I'm afraid of diseases and parasites and whatnot on it, dirty tree rats and all.

If you think I need to clean it, what should I use? Don't want anything that'll ruin the edge or coating.

I would use soap and hot maybe boiling water.
Then put some oil or wd-40 on it. Wipe it dry and you're good to go.

When in doubt wash it out... You should always go with your gut. You asked because you felt you should do it and I agree...

I treat them all the same, especially those used for the gorier jobs. If it's been used, specifically if it's been exposed to bodily fluids of any sort, hot water with antibacterial dish soap, towel or air dry, just like any other kitchen utensil. Oil the joints.

I don't go cleaning my trapper after cutting string or anything though...
but after it collects enough dust and pocket lint in the recesses, I usually just blow the grit out (close your eyes anytime you blow dust out of a crevice. Yes, I learned the hard way) and then I hit it with a light oil at the joints.

What did you do with the squirrel tail? Or the body? But since you said only the tail I'm assuming your using the tail for something. This is a serious question not trying to be a butthole but I'm a city boy and don't see or hear much of that kinda stuff. Thanks in advance for a serious response. And yes I would clean it.
