Default Paracord handle wrap

Has anyone paracord wrapped a handle? Want to wrap my home made machete handle, but have no experience with it. Any tips or methods to try?

I shouldn't say homemade, it was a hand forged display sword that I cut into pieces. To make a throwing knife and short sword/machete.

There sure are a lot of ways to do it. I usually pick the simple wrap, such that cord can be used if necessary.

This looks simple enough for a fancier wrap. http://www.northcoastknives.com/northcoast_knives_tutorials_CordWrap.htm

Couldn't find a good pic of my method. It's kinda like a nail knot or noose knot on the handle.

you're gonna need to "fatten" the handle up a bit so the tang doesn't cut into your hand(s) when choppin with it. prolly bout the size of 1-inch PVC, maybe 3/4-inch. it doesn't have to be completely round, but just something to keep your hand from fatiguin and bruisin when choppin with it.

whatever you attach to the tang, make sure it is VERY WELL secured to it. the last thing you want is for the handle to let the blade slip/fly outta your hand(s) on a miss-hit.

Could I wrap in layers? Say three layers of paracord, would make a good shape. Maybe softer more comfy feel too.

First layer. Nothing fancy simple wrap. Ran out of OD green
cord. Wish I could make a loop at the base also.

That basket weave looks awesome. But I may try it on something smaller first. Just simple wrap made my hands cramp. ( trying to keep constant tension in the cord) 10" of handle took a lot more cord than I anticipated. Haha

Thanks for the help and input guys.

I can tell with the single wrap, as soon as contact would be made it would just kill my palm.

"layers" will be fine.........IF.......you can wrap them tight enough to keep them from slippin!

that kinda "wrap" is fine for a knife, because you won't be choppin and exertin high forces and vibrations to the entire length of the blade.

IF you are gonna wrap it like that, then i would suggest wrappin it with cord, then wrappin a tape layer. heavy duty athletic tape (http://www.ithacasports.com/blatspta1.html) maybe, between your layers. then wrap your last 2 layers with cord.

TIGHT IS THE KEY. THE TIGHTER THE BETTER. leave prolly an inch of the end of the tang exposed. that way your wrap will be less likely to roll off.

here is something i found in the interweb that might help you out some, if you don't wanna go with the athletic tape idea.
