Ontario Spec Plus Marine
Got this new knife for xmas, picked it out myself cause the wife didnt know what kinda knife i wanted. I got it because i needed a good survival knife, something thatll hold a good edge and that i can use for field dressing deer. How do you guys feel about Ontario products, anybody else use them?

I'd rather my own son see me die on my feet as a free man, than watch him go, broken, into slavery.

Same company that makes the new Marine Corps bayonet.
I'm not familiar with the particular model you have there in your hand, but I really like that bayonet. It's a good manufacturer.

That puts some confidence in it for me. It kinda feels like a ka-bar, kinda got a rubberized handle to it.

Is that a bead blast finish on your knife or a powder coating?
I always assumed that the Ontario company was Canadian before, but the pic on your box says Made in USA!
I like the bayonet Ontario designed. It's much better than the older bayonet I had in Army Basic Training In 1992. I've got a knock-off version off the Ontario in my collection.
I just recently got a KA-BAR too. I always assumed that my large survival knife was just about the same as a KA-BAR, so I didn't really need a KA-BAR. After having it in my hands though, the KA-BAR just feels right for a fighting knife.
Here's a pic of my Ontario designed bayonet and my KA-BAR with hardened rubber "Kraton" handle.

It feels and looks like powder coat but ive never heard of bead blast.
And my handle kinda feels rubber coated too but its hard so it must be like the one youve got.

I believe that the "plus marine" implies that the knife passes the "saltwater immersion test". I don't know the specifics behind the test other than the fact that it tests the knife's ability to resist the corrosion that typically occurs when metal is immersed in saltwater for a period of time.
The Marine Corps bayonet made by Ontario was adopted within the last decade, retails at $130 and is one of the most rugged knives I have ever witnessed. Granted, I don't witness many people attempting to stick a knife throw into 1/8 inch sheet metal. He was a horrible throw and eventually bent one of the spring loaded bayonet lug locking pieces. He also destroyed the finish on the blade.
You've got a great looking knife.
