Oh man that's a nice knife. The only knife you need a guy I know has one. It was used in Iraq.. its so sharp it'll shave the short hair off of a Short hair.

How would a Ka Bar be for say hunting? Something like the USMC model.

It will work, but the blade shape may but be optimal for skinning.
Then again, I imagine a piece if broken glass will do in a pinch.

I skinned 2 squirrels with it today and honestly I like it better than a smaller knife. It worked great. I have yet to clean a deer with it but I don't see why you couldn't.

There are better hunting knives/skinning knives but the ka bar works and it works well

There are much better knives or hatchets for splitting wood but here ya go. Splits fist sized logs with ease. I've split some rather fat logs just for the hell of it and thought I might break it but nope.... Batoning in general or batoning with a fighting style KA-BAR might be sacrilegious to some people but hey, if you want to, the knife can handle it. I wouldn't force it though but anything 5 inches and under it can handle in ny experience. Still sharp, but not shaving sharp. It can shave the fur off of game but it won't shave my hair for some reason.
