Hatchets are good to have. Gerber makes one with a knife in the handle as well. If you want a good handmade knife Randy Porter one of our vendors makes them.

I got a Ozark Trail knife two years ago for $15 at walmart single piece of stainless with wooden panels on the side for grips. It works pretty well hasn't broke on me yet the sheath is getting worn out but other then that it's good. As fare as hatchets go for the eastern side get one with a metal handle wood breaks easier then metal and hiking back to get a new one ain't fun.

I keep thinking about sharpening an Estwing rigging axe. Estwing Camp Axes are damn near bullet proof. Several quality sheath knives out there, Buck says they're making them in America again these days. Kershaws seem good. Lots of Gerbers seem to be made in China. Ask any "custom" maker what kind of steel, heat treat, Rockwell hardness, and how he attaches the handle to the blade. If he doesn't want to talk about it don't buy it. Spend $30 at a Walmart.

Randy you are the man. I look forward to more of your knives in the future. I have a bald spot on my forearm from showing off the new blade.

I've got two of those - one in my BOB the other I use a lot because it's convenient. Very sturdy, no problems, great price - recommended!
