It turned out great!
The way I keep the handle holes straight is to get one side glued on and clamped down. Once it dries I clamp it in the drill press, handle side down, tang side up. I drill through the holes in the tang using the drill press.
Once the holes are done in one side, I glue on the other handle and clamp it in place.
After that side dries, clamp it in the drill press, exposing the previously drilled holes on the top. Use those holes as the guide for the bit and drill all the way through the other side.
Once the holes are all the way through, and straight, chatter the pins where they will be hidden by the finished handles.
Coat the pins with glue and set them in the holes. After they dry, start shaping and grind off the exposed parts of the pins.
The pins will be perfectly straight, and never come loose.
