DefaultLanyard on a fighting knife ...Plus's + minus's ?

I worked on fishing boats and climbed mountains. In both places, a loop of strong stuff through the hole in the knife's handle gives the option of "parking" the blade for a moment, without dropping and losing it.

I carry a Gerber Gator II. I'm happy with the edge. I have added a loop/lanyard. I carry the knife in my strong hand pocket, with the lanyard hanging free. If Standing up, it is a simple matter to pull on this string and free the knife.

I read a comment that a lanyard on a fighting knife is a BAD idea. Hmmmm.

Any comments, suggestions / explanations welcomed

There are many schools of thought on this issue. My opinion is that a lanyard on a pocket knife can easily get in the way and cause you to lose a firm grip, but a lanyard on an FB can help if the lanyard is simple enough to slip over ones wrist easily and without catching on other objects. My Strider MT has a lanyard that I rarely use and I just recently took the all of the lanyards off of my folders.

Defaultlanyard no longer catches between blade and 'closed slot

See how I tied off the main loop close to the handle ....
so that (when I close the blade)

the blade no longer catches the lanyard between the handle edges and the place the blade slots home into.

If I understand the question, sometimes, depending on your training, switching grips while a knife is tethered to your wrist is difficult at best.

Only the dummies had to use stuff like that in Basic Training. When they would leave or lose their weapon. We call them dummie cords.
