Sorry CA, missed your question. Guy that sold me the bone told me it's Stellar Sea Cow, been extinct for a couple thousand years so white folks can use it. It's sort of fossilized so it's really dense, didn't really seal it with anything. The buffing compound is wax based and the act of running it on the buffing wheel sort of melts it into any porosity in the surface of your material. Sorry for my inattentiveness.
