Some of what you run across in Virginia and the Carolinas is not the King's English- it is the Queen's English- Queen Elizabeth. In some of the quieter byways, you will still hear terms that are purely Elizabethan English.

Along the Outer Banks or Chesapeake Bay- when the water is as high as it will get- it is "hoigh toide"
