I think it is a sad state where one can own a ak47 pistol but a weapon that shoots a 22 short is outlawed. Cool knife btw.

These things go back a long way and early examples can be 200 years old.
They come up for sale now and again in UK and providing they are obsolete caliber such as .32 or .41 rimfire they are legal for collecters to own. Some are even flintlock.

There is a picture of it (well actually a similar device) in one of the old (late 60s, early 70s, published back when they were trying to educate the public on the new gun laws) yellow ATF supplied firearms identification books. It is classified as "any other weapon" and required a transfer tax, registration and all that to buy one. It's right up there with Cane guns, and alarm guns that didn't shoot blanks.
