So I have a collection going, and I'm trying to find a representative piece of major styles of knives.

The idea would be to have the best manufacturer of a particular knife style.

So I've deduced that for Italian auto stillettos, Frank Beltrame is the best. I acquired one, completely satisfied, but in my search, discovered about 8 other styles of autos. Problem is, not alot of info is available for autos. Anybody have a source?

Just be careful with that Benning, there are a lot of places that an "auto" or gravity knife is highly illegal.

I have one of the first Mercworx Saevus blades that I was trying to sell. Had an awesome auction going on EBay before their Nazi policy police shut it down because of the "legalities" of selling said item.

Yeah, laws are blurry here. Legal to own as part of a collection, but don't even think of carrying one. Yet they are sold openly at gun shows here all the time. Just buying one at a show and then getting it home makes me a little nervous.

That is about what it is like here as well. I have a buddy who recently became a Deputy for King County and he even admits the "law" is a bit left up to the officer to decide as s/he sees it....

I have a Benchmade Presidio that is "auto" but it has a blade lock, both open and closed. My buddy says he doesn't see that as an unlawful blade, but the next cop might. I still carry it - it's one hell of a great knife...

The law isn't vague here in Texas. Switchblades ("auto" knives) are just flat illegal. I've never been able to figure out the "logic" of this law, but its the law none the less. My Benchmade AFO is very much an "auto" but that won't keep me from carrying it.

This is where I harbored all sorts of misconceptions about Texas. Far from Wild West, Frontier Justice land, you poor guys get away with nothing.

I can open my Benchmade with a flick of my wrist just as fast as any auto that I may or may not have.
