JMA - This is a photo of my CRKT m16-10z. I carry this daily and it sort of fits your requirements - Blade length, finish, tanto style, etc. Under $50 also. I keep it sharp. For instance - I built a fence this last month and the many bags of concrete I needed were sliced open with it, used it in grad classes to cut up paper, the end has been torqued on quite a bit. I am pleased with its edge retention and size. For the price I believe it to be a good value. I've used and sharpened it enough that the transition from straight to tanto portion is a bit smoothed out -

CRKT knives are not American made but I recently picked up several older CRKT knives and have dealt with their customer service. If you need a part or service they are very easy to deal with.

My sister in law and a friend took the larger versions to Afghanistan and said they held up to continuous use.

Dimensions
Open Overall Length 7.125 inches
Closed Length 4 inches
Weight 2.3 ounces

Blade
Length 3 inches
Thickness 0.08 inches
Material 8Cr15MoV
Blade-HRC 58-59
Finish Bead-Blast
Grind Hollow
Style Tanto
Edge Triple-Point Serrations

Handle Material Glass Filled Nylon
Liner 2CR13

Lock Type Locking Liner
Safety System AutoLAWKS

Carry System 1 Position Clip

Hope it helps in your decisions.

Funny you would throw this knife up on here. I am about to buy one of these just because I miss my old one that was stolen. I used to carry the m16 kit Carson everyday. I and going to be sticking to my utilitac 2 from Ontario for now and buyin two new knives in the next day or so. I can pick one of the CRKT up for 25$ and I am getting a Kershaw Shuffle for 17$

The appoximately 1" short edge on the tanto style tip is completely useless. Tanto is not a good style blade for anything.
Tanto is not optimal for cutting or stabbing or anything.

I will disagree with that... tanto blades generally have well reinforced tips that can withstand stabbing and glancing off solid things like bones. Many knives have delicate tips that could deform or chip off if struck against something solid. With that said, I will agree that a blade with some belly rolling into the tip is much more versatile and useful to me...

As an extension ti that thought... I have had great luck with my newer model Cold Steel Voyager tanto... AUS8a which isn't the best steel out there but they do a good heat treatment and mine has held up to some gnarly use...

I'm not trying to be rude sir but your are wrong. Tanto is intended to glance off bone making the blade travel more and penetrate even if you hit a bone. I use the the part of the blade where the Tanto meets the long edge as its the most accurate and sharp part for all my cutting. The smaller angle provides two cutting areas and I love that so much. Plus Tanto is nice and scary looking lol. I have drop and clip points as well but I find I always go back to Tanto

My comment was "optimal". Tanto is not optimal for stabbing. Tanto is not optimal for cutting.
Tanto is not more optimal for glancing off bone either. If you want "penetration", Tanto is not the optimal style.

Well we all have our opinions and that's perfectly fine. I have found my Tanto to he very useful to the point it's one of the only blade styles I like. Either way neither of us are using our EDC blades to stab folks or at least I hope not lol. I do hunt a lot and I do use my Tanto for skinning just because I like it more.

I absolutely live the grip. That's a knife that's in my want list for sure man! Good job. I don't always carry a Tanto blade and when I don't I would love to have that knife.
