Default Hand forged knives

Hello;

Anybody else like hand forged knives? I have several, but here is my favorite.
I bought it several years ago from the man who made it. His name is Joe Yanta. What do you all think?

My brother in law makes them. If I can get him to send me some pics I'll post them.

Very nice looking knife. How is the edge retention?

I am just getting into hand forged knives.

Currently myself and BB have an order in out of Nepal for a couple of hand made blades. Can't go into too much detail in case the order turns out to suck, but a review will follow.

The little patch knife in the foreground is hand forged from old mill saw blades by Michael Hemner......http://www.ferndaleblacksmith.com/knives.html

Most of what I read says hand forged is better. Check out a couple issues of Blade magazine. Maybe next summer I'll build a forge. After the garage. The grinding shop is being finished now.

As far as the OP first knife material, I think it is steel from a file. Not positive. The edge is acceptable for my purposes. Here's another one I bought from Bryan Crow in Oregon. It's too big for use but I really liked it. I don't know if he still does them. I have a certificate around here somewhere for it. It has a 14" blade.
