crossbow questions
 

Well im now looking to buy a crossbow for multiple reasons. The problem is im not sure what to get. i love the fact that recurves are simpler and you can restring them easily but its very expensive for a powerful one, By the way i plan on using it for deer hunting and i dont want to spend more then 250$. i was looking at the barnett jackal and horton summit but they are compound and if i am hunting and a string breaks im screwed. so what do you guys reccomend?

Well if u break a string on a recurve your still screwed, 150lb draw weight u sure as heck are not gonna re string it with out a crossbow press, so no real advantage over a compound, horton an barnett have been big players in the crossbow world for along time. But for 250$ dont expect a lot from it either. Entry level archery stuff just sucks period. Nothin like firearms

I shot a doe in the head with a 50 lb recurve yrs ago an it dropped her, it is not by any means the ideal shot placement, but it was the only shot i had an so i figured either dead or clean miss. So with that said use your head shoot the ethical shots or dont take the shot. Always try to wait for broadside shots on still animals when using archery equiptment, you need to understand that YOU OWE IT TO THE ANIMAL TO MAKE A CLEAN HUMANE KILL.

well said. So whats the best choice barnett panzer, barnett jackal , barnett hd 150 ??? I would love to spend more but i cant afford anything above 200, 250 would be a stretch.

I went looking on Amazon for an inexpensive fairly light draw (175#) crossbow for my wife for her birthday a couple years ago and found one for about $180. It came with a red dot sight (actually, it projects three dots vertically and you use the appropriate dot based on the range to target). It's a recurve and it seems pretty good for the price. Very accurate, easy to draw, comes with everything you need (except a target).

It comes with a cord used to restring the bow - takes up little space and no weight, so just keep it with you when you're out in the field. No special tools are needed to restring it.
