Why have a rifle chambered in .50BMG when those rounds are $5/piece.

Why have more than one pistol?

Why study martial arts when a knife and a handgun will do you a lot better?

Why drive when walking/riding a bike is better for you?

Why eat 2400 calories a day when you can get by on 1600.

Who are you to judge?!
Why? Not everyone is here and I like to get as many opinions as I can.

Most of the responses were just machoism, much like some here, lol. No biggie.

I don't care what you shoot. I just wanted opinions of the WHY. As I mentioned .45 ammo is scarce and going up. Many people dropped .380 altogether for obvious reasons, but I don't care what they shoot either.

.50BMG?? I dunno, you don't like tanks?

Have as many pistols as you want, I don't care. But, would you mind if I ask why on a gun forum? Why ask any questions?

Martial arts WI?TH a handgun or knife is much better. The tool doesn't make the man.

Why drive? Saves time, ofcourse.

I want to gain muscle.

sorry if I somehow violated some unwritten rule by posting this question on more than one forum.
Look at my post count here and compare it to TFL (around 100) and THR( around 120). What's the problem?

I thought is was a reasonable question and thanks to those of you who gave reasonable answers.

Can I ask this on my christian forum?

That's actually a great reason NGIB! The 1911 platform was/is originally .45.

Yeah, sort of. The range ammo is quickly becoming the "higher priced ammo."

Put it this way. I can get about twice as much 9mm range ammo than I can .45acp. That's twice as much range time. BUT, then you could argue, "just get a .22 then! Ofcourse!

Now, my plans remain the same. When I get my ccw I want to carry a kimber 4" .45acp. I'll still have my 9mm's and .22's and they will more than likely see more shooting time. I'll carry defensive .45 in the kimber, but shoot range ammo at the range, that's practical.

Don't even have the .45 yet. (Thanks no pay Obama days!) ,but I do have .45 ammo and I buy some when I can find it.

I've pinpointed certain stocking times at our local wally worlds that's good to go and buy.

What I fail to see is why you chose to include the "machoism" comment in your replies. I choose to shoot whatever caliber I deem necessary to get the job done - not to make me feel more manly - contrary to your assertions. Look at my avatar, I could shoot at each pin twice with 9mm - but then I'd lose the match.

Personally, I could care less what it costs me to shoot as I've been working for nearly 40 years to get where I am today. I see your sig line is from Jeff Cooper - did he choose to shoot and revere the .45 ACP in a 1911 because he needed to feel "macho"?

NGIB,

The machoism comment wasn't intended for you or anyone in particular. It's not personal, I hope. It is in response to answere like, "because 9mm is for sissies", "because they don't make a 46," "because I want the biggest hole." etc. These are just machoist comments with no real substance, but they are somewhat funny.

Like I said in me second to last post. The 1911 platform in .45 is the best reason so far imo.

There's nothing macho about it, the .45 ACP is king in stopping power. That's all there is to it. Cast your own boolits and reload then you can shoot it cheaper than you can a 9mm.
On top of that the 1911 is just plain sexy.

goju, you know you want a 45 and you wont be happy until you have one. You had a 40 and got rid of it in order to get a 45. Here is what I would do....Buy the 45 and round up 500-1000 rounds of factory loaded ammo. I would then start searching for a good deal on a new or lightly used reloading press. I got a Lee 4 hole turrent press with the 45 dies for around $125 new. Get some powder, primers, reloading manual, ask a few questions and you're in business.
I just did the math and I can shoot my 45 for about $0.17 a round. I'm sure someone here can do it cheaper but with the components I like to use that is my cost. If you want to save some more money, start casting bullets. Get with robocop with questions on that.

Oh, why do I carry a 45??? because my wife likes it!!

This argument will continue into perpetuity! Please stop showing the size of your penis and just accept the fact that a .32 ACP will kill the BG as fast as the .44 Rem Mag if shot placement is achieved!

Spend the time. achieve the skills, kill the Bad Guy! cane
