The shortage will end when the panic buying stops. The government "stockpiling" ammo is about as lame an example of "conspiracy theory" as you can imagine. The government uses a hell of a lot of ammo, but not much of it is .22LR.

This shortage is a self inflicted wound, just as the 2008 shortage was, no conspiracy, just paranoia.
That's exactly what happens here as well....

In Central Florida it started in about November. It was short, but you could find it. After Newtown there was nothing in the stores until just recently. Now there seems to be rifle ammo available (except .223) but you still need to be at Wal Mart when they unload to get pistol ammo.

It may be loosening further though, as Gander has a big ad for ammo this week in Central Florida.

Then if there is so little Profit in it why is it missing from the shelves in the big boxes? The guys in my Wally World are a good enough bunch but one told me on the side that at least two others working there were the ones calling buddies to come buy it up for them so it could be resold at a large profit. One local LGS is selling 50's for 10-12 bucks a box!!!

Welcome to backpage - I watch them stand in line every Thursday morning @ my Local Walmart. I think they get there at 5:00am and wait until 9:00am for the ammo to hit the shelves. They do the same think at Sportsman's. I had to laugh, I asked a guy that was standing in the check out line with 2 boxes (the max limit at the time) of 9mm. I asked him how long he was in line (I was there about 9:30am, he said he was third inline at 5:00am. All I can say is different strokes for different folks. I'll be happy shooting and reloading my 6,000 rounds of 9mm.

I haven't noticed there is an ammo shortage. Ammo is harder to find but I get what I want at a decent price. The last pistol ammo I bought was in March. I paid $18 a box for PPU 357 mag 158 gr SP ammo. Recently I bought 500 rounds of 22 wmr CCI game points for $120 and 140 rounds of Brown Bear 7.62 x 54r 203 gr SP for $80. Ammo prices are up a little since last summer but it's out there.

Where we are it's up from 50 to 150% depending on where you go. My load of PMC Bronze from Last yr(bought 700 Rds. when I bought My two Ruger .9's last Spring) was $12.99 per 50 then. The cheapest i have gotten ANY OTC is 19.99 per, and "Some" places treat it like it's a Gold Bullion purchase!!! The LGS that "Gouges" people had it up to $38 a box at one point!!
Was supposed to be headed to a different WalMart today about an hr. away, but the Wheel-Babe has a Migraine.....

Default Ammo Shortage

I noticed as soon as Obango was "elected" some of the components started to vanish pretty quick, I warned my friends but they just said I was paranoid, well, after the "reelection" they started to call me because they couldn't get some stuff, I had to say "Sorry" you were warned

Was it surplus .303 Brit? I hope it wasn't the dreaded Pakistani "Click..........bang!" stuff.

Russia still has a zillion warehouses stuffed with old 7.62X54R ammo. Corrosive primers and all.
