Rimfires seem to be the rarest of all.

The police departments I've read about are getting them from somewhere. Bigger contracts means closer to the front of the line for who gets what.
I have plenty of rimfire, but just looking for small rifle primers.

It's odd that Sandy Hook was used for the big anti AR campaign. I feel that there's enough doubt there that an AR was even used. It seems the Aroura attack would have made more sense for the left to go after the AR's. Ammo was a little more scarce after Aroura but was completely gone after Sandy Hook.

If there is a shortage due to the police using .22 rimfires it is a well kept secret. Police Depts. do not usually have .22 handguns. Now I suppose there will be a Maga shortage of .22 pistols?
If there is a real "Plot" causing the shortage then why are scalpers well stocked with .22 RF? Go to any gun show, there is plenty of .22 RF ammunition. It is selling for $100 dollars for 400 rounds.
Chainfire has it right the shortage is due to hoarding and insider buying.

Yeah, if anything after sandy, i noticed that .223 were over a dollar a shot, just recently i noticed than its going back to a reasonable price. But as i was reading a bit earlier the whole "army ammo stockpiling" thing is true. Ive seen some orders for manufacture. And a couple of public buying from civilians. But it was sometime last year. I cant remember when...

Last time I was at a gun show, there were more ammo sellers than gun sellers...or so it seemed. There is no doubt to me that speculation in ammo is driving both scarcity and price. I did buy some ammo a month ago and the seller had limits on purchases so even though the price was high, I could get some...finally!

About the time of the Newtown shootings. However, I stopped by our local sporting goods store (Academy) earlier today and they had plenty of everything finally. Ammo in all calibers, AR/AK mags, "black" rifles and accessories were on the shelves again, unlike the situation just a month or so ago. The only downer was you are still limited to a single box of ammo in "popular" calibers with a total of three boxes (1 each per caliber) per each purchase. The prices also seem to be back, more or less, to pre shortage prices. OTOH, at our local W-Marts the popular calibers like .22, 9mm, .45, 5.56 mm, etc are still pretty much non existent but AR and similar style rifles are back in stock. It seems that here in my part of E. Texas it really depends are the individual retailer as to what and how much is available when it comes to gun's & ammo, but stuff is out there and at reasonable prices again. You just need to look around a bit.
