What is the Difference between FMJ and TMJ

Is there really a difference?

No, they are the same.

FMJ has a copper or cupro-nickle jacket over a lead core. There is an unjacketed area at the base where the core was inserted into the jacket during forming.

TMJ has no exposed lead. The jacket completely encloses the lead core. I believe the Speer TMJ is actually plated like the Gold Dot.

Total metal jacket is what tmj is. I prefer tmj to traditional jacketed rounds for range ammo. You dont get to breathe small ammounts of vaporized lead. There is also no lead to deal with during cleaning. Lead can leech into skin or contaminate work surfaces.

Its generally cheaper and ive never seen a lick of difference shooting it out of my 45s
