what ammo do you recommend, im use to using the 55 grain, what is the difference with 55 g and 85 g, what is good duty ammo for law enforcement in 223

The difrence in 55 grn and 85 grn in a riffle is the riffling twist. With a 55grn bullit you can use a 1/12 twist with a 85 grn you will need a 1/9 to stableize it.
As for the law inforcement I Don't know.

85 gr bullets will require at least a 1-7 twist. 55-62 gr bullets are stabilized well by the standard 1-9 twist of most ARs.

The 12 twist will work for more bullets up to 62grs. There may be some 60 or 62gr bullets that do not stabilize well in some 12 twist barrels.

The standard twist for many bolt action 223 rifles is 1:12 while most Ar are 1:9 or faster.

The heavier the bullet, the longer the bullet. The longer the bullet, the faster you have to spin it to stabilize it. You can shoot the lighter bullets in the fast twist guns (55 gr in a 1/7 or 1/9 barrel).

For duty carry in a fast twist gun I prefer the Winchester 64 gr Power Point load. Accurate with dependable terminal ballistics. Hollow point ammo is best left to the Tac teams for entry guns. The HP ammo has a tendance to fragment and can leave superficial injuries. The heavier SP's will retain weight better for proper penetration while still expanding and leaving effective wound channels.

I shoot a Bushmaster DCM, 1:9 and a CZ527 Varminter, 1:9 twist. I have not tried heavier than 65gr. but from 52gr to 65gr they all shoot great. I use what suits my purpose. I actually did shoot a box of Federal 69gr match in my DCM. They did well.

For 55 grains I like shooting the Remington 55g, .223 UMC ammo . It works great in the AR15 and I've never had any problems with feeding or ejection while using this ammo.

I have stuck with 55 grain bullets for my .223 re-loads, mainly because one of my AR's is an old Colt SP1 with a 20" 1:12 twist barrel. I have a large stock of .223 that I want to be accurate in either AR should I ever need to use it in a SHTF situation.

I did an experiment with some match grade 68 grain BTHP loads and the old Colt could not even hit paper with them at 100 yards! However, they shot very accurately in my 16" 1:9 twist RRA carbine.

I should try reloading a batch of 62 grain bullets and see how they do in the 1:12" Colt.

What ammo, why my own reloads of course! I load 55 grain FHJBT's with 24.6 grains of H4895. The powder almost completely fills the case. Can just seat the bullet without compacting the powder.
