If you must use a .22, then use CCI Stinger.

Top quality HV solids for pistol and HP for rifles. A 36 grain Mini Mag HP will penetrate 3 pieces of cloth and 13+" of ballistic gel at 30 yards while expanding to almost double when fired from a rifle. Most HP will not expand in the velocities obtained in short barrels and will not penetrate as well as the solids. Stingers and Velocitors are the exceptions but the Stinger is only 32 grains while the Velocitor is 40grains. Some semi autos have problems with the hyper velocity rounds. A revolver would be a safer bet as you dont have to clear a dud.

Would you go into a pen with a 150# wild hog with your .22 and expect to stop its charges?

If you can afford a more robust caliber, do it.
If all you have is the .22, then Stinger (if it can be used in your handgun per manufacturer).

MiniMags have been great in two of my three 22lrs, been trying the Subsonics by Remington and find them to be great in all of my 22lr handguns.

Although I prefer copper plated tips always.

take a look at Agulia they have some smokin fast 22lr ammo. But I would encourage you to look into at least a 380 auto. The little rugers and Smiths shoot good and recoil is not at all bad.

If you're going to use a 22 for SD shoot CCI mini mags round nose. The hollow points might look good in ballistic gelatin but they unroll like sheet metal when they hit a real bone. A round nose will go right through a 200 LB buck's shoulder blades and exit. A hollow point will not even get close, even a stinger. I have shot coyotes several times with stingers. I can only estimate I have never done a study. Only one out of three stingers go all the way through a 35 LB coyote. A would estimate two of three round nose mini mags will leave an exit wound.
