Turning 30-06 into 25-06

I have a 25-06 and have been wanting to reload for it and I friend gave me about 30 empty 30-06 casings that he had saved for some reason. What do I need to do in order to shorten the casing neck down? Just put it in the 25-06 die? I'm new to this resizing thing

All you have to do is run your 30 brass through your 25 die. Just make sure it's set to full length resize. The brass will come out a little to long so you'll have to trim it down. Max length is 2.494 trim to is 2.484. De bur it and make sure it will chamber. If everything has been done right it should chamber just fine. If you have a good reloading manuel it should have all the case dimensions, so check that too. Hope this helps.

I am no expert. I have played with resizing 30-06 to .270 the problem I run into and I dont know if you will have the same with the 25-06. My problem is overall case length when I resize from .30 to .270 I loose about .125 in case length. I dont know how to get around that. I have test fired a few but would not rely on them other than for a situation where I could not get any other brass. But like I said I am in no way an expert.

I used lee resizing lube and worked the press real slow into the die. They came out looking good and all the measurements looked good other than overall length.

I have been doing this for 30 years. No problem at all. Full length resize and check length, trim as needed (likely). Anealing will improve results and extend case life.

How would I resize it? Just sit it through the 25-06 die with the 30-06 casing without a bullet to decrease the neck size then trim?

Use a standard full length .25-06 sizer die. Lube the case and resize. The brass is forced down to a smaller diameter so it has to go somewhere, it does "grow".

The way the others described works just fine. I still prefer to run the .30-06 brass through a Redding .25-06 form and trim die (about $25 or so from Midway, Grafs, etc. I believe) first then run the brass through the .25-06 full length sizer die. Seems to work easier for me that way. Annealing the brass first is also a good idea.

Thank you all for the help. As soon as I get the die in and try out a few, I'll let y'all know how it works out
