Thoughts on Home electroplating?

I believe I could accomplish electroplating on my own at home ... I am looking into the operation of adding more metal or adding nickel to any metal object I wish. Any thoughts to this? are the proper chemicals legally attainable?

Company called Texas Platers Supply, 2453 W. Five Mile Parkway, SGN., Dallas, Texas 75233. Phone (214) 330-7168. IF the EPA has not shut them down, they used to sell a home hobbyist system, used a couple of dry cell batteries, good for small items- you do not want to try this for a rifle barrel, etc. Excericse care- chemicals are toxic, mishandle them and they will eat all the paint off yer house, and make all yer babies be born nekkid. If you try them, please post results here, and good luck.

I have done a little research and I found a non toxic method being used to electroplate objects. When I get the money to purchase the materials I will post my results.

Does this not DEcrease the value of the firearm? I assume it would be bad for the market value of your collectible

Gold plating

Have been successful in replacing lost gold plating on a fine engraved shotgun. Was an electroplating kit bought on Ebay and the results impressive.

What did you use to mask out the areas that you did not want to plate?
