two cases out of how many bought in that batch?

i'm inclined to believe it's just a random failure in the cases.

That's what I thought but then I put a round in the same chamber that had a split the second time and had no problem

i think you just had a couple of defective cases. just keep an eye on the others and if more of them occur, maybe contact StarLine and see what they have to say.

Anyone can have bad brass. Sounds like it is totally the fault of the brass. Save all the split cases(I assume you will get more) and then call the manufacturer.

I've shot Starline brass for many years in several calibers,44 Magnum,45 Colt, and 458 SOCOM. I have never had any case failures like you have posted, and it is probably just some bad brass that is in that batch.
I would contact Starline, and they will probably want you to send back the entire box of brass for them to inspect.
