Default So, I'm looking at the SS109

that is for sale on Midway, and I'm curious if anyone knows if the PRVI partizan is Steel cored.
After my last range day, I chose to have at least half my ammo stocked for my rifles to be steelcored, If it shoots well. as such, if the PRVI box shoots nice, I'm gonna order two of their battle packs
So, Any reviews, comments, suggestions?

Btw, It'll be running in a DD 16inch Carbine Gas Length System.

I have both Brit (Rorg) and Lake City SS109 and all attract a magnet. Definitely has steel core.

Alrighty
Well I can't find any of the Radway green stuff available... I'm going to try out a box of the PRVI and maybe I'll be able to get ahold of some of the Lake City stuff.

Thanks Kindly Cane brake. CTD has it too... catch is I plan to test a few types before I buy but if SS109 Shoots well, it shouldn't matter across manufacturers right?

Just because Lake City M-855/SS-109 shoots well (or poorly) does not mean the Prvi ammo will shoot even similarly. SS-109 is simply a Belgian designation for the 62 gr FMJ/BT bullet with steel penetrator. How well it shoots depends on many factors like consistency of powder charge and bullet weight. I recently bought a batch of 62 gr bullets (non steel core) that exhibited a pretty wide range of weights. 61 to nearly 64 grains. That will be very detrimental to accuracy. I was able to get good results by weighing the bullets and creating 3 dirrerent lots in one grain increments. I loaded each batch using the same powder charge and kept the loaded rounds seperate. Each batch will shoot 1" or better, but the zero between batches is an inch or more different.

If the ammo says SS-109, it should be steel penetrator core.

pagj17,
Be carefull, steel core ammo is not legal in communist Kalifornia. By the way, where do you live down the hill ?? I'm out just past Barstow. Both my brothers still live in San Bernardino........

Jim...

I think steel core's only illegal in 308 and 9mm as that makes it "cop killer" ammunition.
And I'm down in Mira Loma.
I used to have an uncle that lived in Yermo.... he never did get to take me shooting up there lolz.

Alrighty, the research I did basically said that Only AP Pistol ammo is illegal, along with tracers and such.
I pretty much figured as much since I was able to pick up copper washed steel 8mm Mauser at the local gunstores
