Default Service life of EDC ammo

How long do ya keep carrying your ammo in your EDC piece before you have to trade for fresh? Is that the way to ask this? I couldn't find anything on it (maybe cause I don't know how to phrase it)

Quality ammo will last a LONG time. I've never had any go bad. I've used milsurp from the 80's that was fine.

We trade out duty ammo every year. Your life depends on that ammo, keep it fresh.
