SAMMI/CIP What is it mean?
I have a stupid question. What is it mean Sammi/cip ? Something about pressure? In example:

The SAMMI/CIP maximum pressure for the .308 Win cartridge is 62,000 psi,
Thanks in advance.

The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute (SAAMI) is an association of the nation's leading manufacturers of firearms, ammunition and components. SAAMI was founded in 1926 at the request of the federal government and tasked with:

Creating and publishing industry standards for safety, interchangeability, reliability and quality
Coordinating technical data
Promoting safe and responsible firearms use
The work at SAAMI is accomplished by its committees. Technical excellence is always our goal and safety is always the prerequisite. SAAMI supports science-based solutions to the many issues related to firearms, ammunition and components. Information and a description of the function of each committee is available by clicking on the committee name to the left.

I think you mean CUP . . .which is "cupperous pressure." SAAMI runs a test barrel with a hole in the wall over the chamber. They put a copper plug of a specific length in the hole and fire the load.

Then they measure the compression of the plug and that provides a "number." Don't ask me how they figure the number or what the number means. I just know that 44 magnum runs 40,000 CUP and .458 Win. Mag. runs 50,300 CUP.

There is no "European equivalent" of anything. And the US military went to 9mm anyway.

CIP is the short form for “Commission Internationale Permanente pour l'Epreuve des Armes Feu Portatives” which translates to “Permanent International Commission for Firearms Testing”.

It IS the European SAAMI.

CUP is "Copper Units of Pressure", the old Copper Crusher method of measuring pressure.

What does that have to do with SAAMI/CIP?
