rifle reload question
I am reloading a 270 win. with hornady dies. when I seat the bullet, the seater plug lets the tip of the bullet (hornady 130gr. sst) go thru its center about 3/16" and leaves a ring around the bullet. is the sst to pointed for this die or is there another problem??? Any suggestions appreciated

No My Hornady dies do the same thing. I found that by starting softly and going slow will eliminate the ring. That is just the one flaw in the Hornady dies. It has never affected accuracy or performance on my loads. I load 223 with the Hornady dies and get groups in the .4" range most of the time.

A bit more case mouth chamfer and go slow. The ring is mostly cosmetic anyway.

If you raise the seater stem, and lower the die, it eliminates the ring.

Thanks alot guys....I called Hornady and they said it is common and for me to chamfer the pilot hole alittle so it won't be as sharp....this should take care of the ring.
