On July 30, I ordered an RCBS carbide die set for the .45 Long Colt from Cabelas (I had a gift certificate). As of this date, it's still on back order from RCBS. I checked some of the other Web sites (Graf & Sons, etc.) this morning and it seems that there is a general shortage of reloading dies. I thought the panic buying was only for ammo and reloading components, not reloading dies. What gives?
Demand for dies should primarily be a function of the sales of presses (yes, there are surely other factors). It seems that everything related to reloading is currently subject to shortages.
Since it is now October and I still haven't received my RCBS 45 Colt Carbide Die Set that I ordered in July, I thought I would check Cabela's and some of my other favorite online reloading supply sources regarding the availability of the die set. The results:
Cabela's - Out of Stock
Graf & Sons - Out of Stock
Midsouth Shooter's Supply - Out of Stock
Midway - Out of Stock
My local Cabela's has 45colt dies everyday. I just bought 45acp a few weeks ago and seen them last week when I went to get some camo for hunting this year.
Cabelas and Sportsmans warehouse up here has all kinds of dies, just the 223 and 9mm dies are still off the shelf, as well as neck size only dies are nill. I did get lucky and get 4 pounds of 2400 powder for my 44 mags though. Whoot! Whoot!
