For reloading pistol cartridges all you need is 4 stations.

Station 1: size deprime prime

Station 2: flare and powder

Station 3: Powder cop die

Station 4: bullet seat and crimp.

That is my set up. I use RCBS dies in my 550b If you use dillon or (GULP) Lee dies. then they have 3 dies each. you don't use a powder cop die.

Look The Dillon you could smash it with a hammer or drop it out of a chopper (Really happened) and no matter what they will fix it or replace it.

What's a "powder COP die"?

Fred, what ever "Used" brass you get, look inside of the case to see if it is Berdan or Boxer. Berdan=2 small holes side by side.=Boxer(re-loadable) 1 single larger hole, in the center of the web of the case. To me Berdan primed brass (or Steel) is worthless, and gets trashed quickly. BTW, 7.62x39 is NOT the only Berdan primed cases out there-so-inspect inside all brass of unknown origin. This habit will save headaches-not to mention broken de-cap pins down the road, and is another good idea, during all hand loading.

For 7.62 X 39 you can trust the American headstamped ammo to be boxer primed (reloadable);
Winchester
R-P (Remington)
FC (Federal)
Several imports are also boxer primed;
S&B (Sellier & Belloit)
Lapua
Fiocchi

I have not seen X 39 brass from Star Line but it would also be boxer.

Any case that is magnetic (steel) should be discarded. Any brass that has Cryillic or Arabic symbols is suspect. Any brass that has numerical coding (like 4-77 or 13-4, etc) is suspect.

powder cop dies is what some call the RCBS lockout die. You adjust the plunger so that if the powder is to high or to low it will lock up the press like a cash for clunkers car.
