Power Pistol muzzle flash
Just started hand loading .40 S&W using 165 gr jacketed round nose bullets using Power Pistol powder this weekend. Is it me or does it give an impressive muzzle flash and somewhat louder report compared to say Bullseye powder which I use for my .45ACP loads.
At first I was questioning my loads which were at 7.2 grn and moved them back to 7.0 to be safe. My Speer manual has this setup with 7.0 min to 7.8 max so I am well within tolerances. It's not a big deal, just caught me off guard at our local indoor range.
Anyone else doing a similar load setup with the same results?

I did some 10mm HP loads a few years back with power pistol. They turned the heads of everyone on the range.
Try IMR 4756.

Thanks I'll give that a try after I use the 2 lbs I've got. Does the IMR meter as well as the PP?

I use Power Pistol in my .357 and 10mm loads. I'm not overly impressed with it. Large muzzle flash for sure with mediocre velocities. When I use it up, I plan on switching to Accurate Arms #9. Better suited for 10mm and .357.

It probably is louder and has more flash but honestly I been in the game so long and shot so many guns and load combinations I hardly notice,all I care about is the end result and it works very well for what I use it for.
I got a deal on a 4 lb. jug of Power Pistol a couple years ago and I like the stuff,it meters shoots great in my 9 mm,38+P loads and light weight bullet 357 loads.

I just picked up a 1 lb jug this past Saturday. I am loading for 9mm. I have read on a few different forums that it is quite loud and has a very impressive muzzle flash. I'm looking forward to seeing what it does for me. Reviews for it in 9mm are pretty darn good.

i use it for 45 acp and my 44 mag./spl. loads and it works great for me. pretty decent accuracy out of all the pistols it's used in. personally i am not seeing an excessive amount of noise or flash from my pistols.

Thanks for all the info, I'm going to load up some .45 this weekend and see how they do.

The 4756 meters very well.
Back when I shot 10mm for IDPA, that was my powder, under a 155 fmj.

PP is an excellent powder. I say that withoutv hesitation.
BUT
IME, anything that PP will do, HS-6 will do a little better. Especially in 9MM and .38 special +P. Lower flash, higher velocity and perfect metering through all of my powder measures. (Dillon, Redding, Lyman.)
One other thing. IME, neither PP or HS6 is suitable for low velocity target loads. Both are great for +P and +P+ loads.
