Default powder suggestions

okay, i'm looking for some info here gents. i want a powder that will work good in a .223/5.56, and a .308. i already have powder for my .308 but if i could double up i think it would be a good thing. any ideas? if you know of one that will work for .223/.308/ and 30 06. that would be helpful too as i plan on owning one in the future.

Many powders will work in both cartridges. Few, if any will be ideal in either. I use W-748 or BLC-2 for most general purpose ammo in most calibers from .223 to .30-06.

I use IMR4895 for both .223 and .308 with excellent results. Also, you can use it for 30.06.

Depending on the bullet weights you choose, Varget or IMR 3031.

I just referenced a few of my loading manuals. It looks like IMR3031 and Varget would be good choices for both the .223 and .308 cartridges, including their use in semi-auto rifles.

Thanks. Currently using imr3031 for my .308. I'll have to load a few .223 n see how it does.

I've heard the Imr4895 name mentioned before. I'll be looking to get some I think

www.hodgdon.com will have all the data you need and is contantly updated.

I have had good luck with Varget in a wide variety of cartridges.

I used Accurate 2230 in my .223 Rem. It's clean and reliable.
