please help with 50cal
Hey,
I live on the east coast of Australia,I recently dug up a 50BMG cartridge on a former army and airforce training ground during the second world war,in which tanks, fighter planes and bombers were used. The cartridge has TW45 written on it but is 12.6mm x 99mm (50BMG),I was wondering if anyone would know anything about the TW45 round?? any help would be appreciated greatly......we had 1000s of US troops training here during that time and thought it might have been fired from an American unit as generally we used .30 cal machine guns at that time.

G'day, Full Bore! Your cartridge was made in Minnesota at the Twin Cities ammo plant in 1945. Twin Cities refers to the cities of St Paul and Minneapolis. In addition to being used by ground forces, it was used as an anti-aircraft gun on the top of a tank or truck, and was used by fighter aircraft and by bombers as their defensive guns. As you surmised, it is caliber .50 BMG (Browning Machine Gun)
