Both of my 45 Colts like Unique or 2400 with a 255 gr cast bullet. I use a Ruger platform on both so not knowing what you are using I'll just suggest working up the charge.

your comment regarding the possibility of missing a double charge is why i prefer bulkier powders in large cases. if i double charge my colt .45 unique load, it would overflow the case.

i save powders such as 231 and bullseye for limited capacity auto loader cases where a double-dose would be obvious. just my way of trying to avoid any potentially disastrous inattention on my part.

ignorance is fixable, stupidity is forever...

A load that was known awhile back was 20 grs of 4227 with a 255 gr cast wadcutter was the way to get over 1000fps and keeping pressures acceptable for colt style handguns. I haven't seen it listed in any of the new reloading manuals so I would be cautious. I used this load in my ruger blackhawk with good results. CD
