old ammo?

I purchased in 1996 2000k rounds of 5.56x45mm ball M1A4, 30 round boxes sealed in military green waterproof heavy vinyl bags. Is this stuff any good?

bradam,

As long as it has been kept dry as the container you mentioned I am sure it is still very good. I have shot 30+ year old ammunition with no problem at all. But always kept it dry and not exposed to excessive heat. So go shooting and have fun!

Been stored in the house, 80 degree summe,r 70 degree winter, and no leaky roof. Thanks for the good news

You have not gotten close to old yet. I am still shooting stuff with a WW 2 headstamp.

Might open i package (200 rounds) for testing purposes only, and then start buying again.

I inherited Gramma's 1964 11-48 and the ammo she bought in '64...

Stored in the original boxes, in a sump pump room in the basement...(obviously)

Every last bit shot just fine...

I gotta figure, as long as you don't keep it in your fishtank, it's good to go...

Not to hijack the thread but are there any torture tests on ammo to show at what point it will become less reliable or stop working completely? It seems like ammo is good for a long time even in crappy conditions.
