I am on the fence about using this stuff. I have heard a lot of praise for it, but have also heard that it can junk up the your bore. so I thought I would through out a thread to weight the pros and cons of this stuff.

I have a friend who shoots benchrest, and he swears by it. says you can shoot all day long without scrubbing the gun. I hear that doing this can lead to "moly rings" in the bore. he also says that it will extend the life of the barrel, due to less wear on the lands.

there are also claims of improved accuracy with this stuff. I'm sot so sure that is true, or even how much of an improvement it makes.

Molybdenum Disulfide turns into cyanogens when it burns. These cyanogens turn into caustic copper salts in the chamber and bore. They also turn into cyanide compounds.

My 2 cents: I'll never use moly based anything on any of my firearms.

caustic as in eats metal!? eeekkk!! why do people use this stuff?

Moly doesn't do anything beneficial. Upon what matt g said it raises chamber pressures because it adds to the diameter of the bullet. My dad did it for a while but stopped.

People and animals have been dying for years before moly coating.

Caustics are he77 on aluminum but harmless to steel. In fact, hot blueing "salts" are actually strong fairly strong caustics very much like lye and used at about 290 F.. It it could ever could hurt steel THAT would be the time!

Articles I've read state that after a while, the moly forms a build-up in the barrel which is very hard to remove. I'll never use it.
