Stay away from any mag that says military and law enforcement use only on it. If your in a state with a mag ban you should only buy mags from an ffl to be safe.

Spring steel, by it's very existence, doesn't just magically wear out without loading.

Thus a spring in a magazine in a WWII bunker that was never touched wouldn't suddenly shatter into pieces if you loaded it up for what would be "the first time". (caveat: assuming the Earth didn't stop on it's axis, the poles reversed and said spring steel went from -200 F to 400 F on a regular basis. )

Now if it was 1,000,000th time you loaded it, yeah, you could have a problem.

Are you asking what mags are best for your AR? Or are you looking to get your hands on multiple cheaper mags and want to be able not to buy lemons?

JD

Is he talking about a specific date/batch from a set manufacturer?

Otherwise I am at a loss. I have never seen a thread where someone said:

"Don't buy ANY AR-15 mags made between March of 1998 and Dec of 2002" or anything like that I am afraid.

I'm gonna go with stumped on this one, sorry.

There usually isn't an easy way to tell unless you know they are a new style (pmags) or if they are marked Leo only as I stated before. Your best bet is to purchase from a gun shop and if you are ever confronted about them just hand them over.
