Default Load Question

If I owned a 30 06 built on an action that could be chambered in 338 LaPua, could the 30 06 ammo be loaded to 338 LaPua and fired safely without the high cost of the LaPua ammo?

You could make some hot .30/06 loads but you will never get a .338 projectile in the case.

That is a strange question, but I'll give it a shot;
The .30-06 is a fine cartridge, but it will never be a .338 Lapua. The Lapua cartridge is longer and fatter than the -06. You may have a magnum length action capable of accepting a cartridge as long as the Lapua, the bolt face is much different. Changing calibers would involve a barrel swap and a new bolt.

There is no way a -06 can be loaded to be in the same class with the Lapua
In life, strive to take the high road....It offers a better field of fire.

Short answer.

If you want a .338 LaPua, then buy a .338 LaPua.
