A magnum primer should burn hotter and longer than a standard primer. You MUST back off and develop a new load (that is the text book answer). You may see some difference in pressure and velocity when switching from a large pistol standard primer to a small pistol magnu primer, use caution.

I tried reloading some of the Federal cases with the small primers. Evidently Federal has not perfected the process, as I got the spent primers out easy enough but smashed about every other one trying to get the new ones in. I was doing it very carefully with a Lee hand priming tool. I won't try loading any more of them. I will just stick with the large primer cases.
