Default Hornady Buckshot

I am a little confused by Hornady's selection of 2-3/4" 12 gauge buckshot loads and am looking for a little insight. My question is,why does Hornady have 3 different 12 gauge shotgun loads, all with different names that are all the same ballistics? They have the TAP(FPD for personal defense),the "Superperformance" and the "Critical Defense" loads, all of which are 2-3/4" 00 buck,8 pellet 1,600 feet per second.I don't understand.

most liekly marketing. migth be easier to sell something called critical defense in commiefornia, tap would appeal to the mall ninja crowd and super performance to the gotta have the best guys...

just my guess

That was what I was thinking, the only thing I ever read with any differences was that the TAP had flash reducing powder, but they probably have it in all of them but only mention it with TAP.I figured the security guard will buy TAP,the guy doing home defense will get Critical defense and the guy deer hunting will buy Superperformance.

prolly so. easy to make one product market it three different ways. hornady is good stuff im not faulting that strategy if it is indeed the case. i give em credit for creativity if it is hehe

It's all marketing. They do the same with some of their rifle rounds. They make 223/5.56 in BTHP "TAP" and "Match"(in the critical defense type packaging)...exactly the same rounds every which way you look at them...including the stats printed on the side. They make Superformance 5.56 as well, but I haven't checked the box to see if all the numbers line up with the other two.

I'm sure this about more than just the individual customer. In large part, it's about the chain stores making the orders. Gun stores will happily order TAP, while sporting goods chains would be more prone to order the Match or Superformance lines.

BTW- That 1600fps claim is absolutely smokin. Probably a little more than necessary. I'd stick to the typical 1300fps stuff for home defense. More manageable, easier on your wallet, and certainly not lacking power. My HD 12g starts off with a couple rounds of heavy birdshot (#4 or #5), then escalates to 00 buck.
