hold my beer, I'm gonna try somethin'

Recently I had read something (on here?) about ultrasonic cleaning of cases. After looking around at several ultrasonic cleaners, I thought of using my tumbler. Ultrasonic cleaning is just vibrations, right? So I would have to leave it in longer, no biggy. Anyway.... here are my results.

1 cup of white vinegar to 1/2 quart of water. "tumbled" for about an hour, rinsed, dried and cut open for inspection. The one on the left is tumbled in walnut media.

Ultrasonic cleaners and tumblers aren't one in the same. An ultrasonic cleaner would likely have taken a lot of the carbon fouling off of the inside of the case.

Just a thought, but I'll bet if you ran the same test, sans tumbler (just soak the brass) you would get similar results.
It's the engineer in me. I like tests.

You guys are most likely right. I've used them on the ships and the results were far different on carbon. My goal was to provide agitation without having to smell vinegar for an hour.

Why not just use Chevy top end engine cleaner. that stuff eats carbon like Rosie O'Donnell at a Krispy Kream.
