Help with ammo

Want to get some good self defense ammo and I also want to stock up on ammo for shtf what should I get for each? My gun is rra ar15 5.56 1:9 twist. I want some good ammo no steel case, not that steel case is not good I just don't want any. Brand and grain specific please.

Hornaday makes some 69grain for the 1:9.

I myself would have no problem using the 62grain Tula HP for half the price. In a self defence situation the close proximity will negate any variation in accuracy.

However if I had my pick of ammo regardless of price it would be something much heavier/longer like a 75grain Hornaday of some sort of hollow point or ballistic tip.
