I like to think I scored pretty good yesterday. I was in gander mountain having a conversation with a complete stranger about how every where you go everyone is sold out and doesn't know when they will have another shipment. So after talking for a little bit I told him I reload my own ammo and can't find bullets, powder, primers etc. so he told me his son reloads and he goes to a place about a half hour from where I live and he said they always have what he needs. So I decided to take a trip their yesterday expecting to see what I've seen at every other store I tried, but when I got their they had everything I needed and their prices were reasonable shocking due to recent events. I got 2 250 round boxes of Hornady 224. 55 gr. v-max bullets for $38.67, a box of 1,000 Remington 7 1/2 small rifle primers for $27.44 ( I wanted CCI but they were out of them), and 2lbs of IMR 8208 XBR for $21.16 a pound.

Wow you did really well. I've got primers, but can't find some powders and bullets. I have enough for a while though.

I scored this morning.

Went to the local BiMart as they were opening, and picked up (3) 525rd bricks of Rem 22lr Golden bullets, and one 25rd box of Rem 00 Buckshot. All four boxes were under $20 a piece, so the total was like $76. Not bad.

Lucked out at my LGS after spending a considerable time on the web trying to find components. This stores prices are typically well above internet prices pre-2012 Election. They have not changed their prices which makes them a bargain. They are a small shop and thus they have been overlooked as a serious source of anything gun.
After going through various powders I scored on what I needed to load my
M1 30 carbine. I was also able to score some 55gr 22 bullets for my AR-15.
Life is good.

I went to the local Academy store earlier today and looked at the ammo shelf in the gun area. Not much there other than shotgun shells and rounds for calibers like 7mm mag, 270 and 22-250. I asked the clerk behind the counter when they might expect more ammo and he asked what caliber I was looking for. When I told him .22lr and 9mm he said they had it in stock, it was just kept at the service desk up front for the time being. I went to the front desk and sure enough there was 22, 380, 9mm 40, 45, 5.56, 308 and other popular calibers stacked behind the counter. I asked how much I could get and was told 2 boxes per caliber per visit. I asked if there were any shortages or problems with regular shipments and was told no, they received ammo shipments 2-3 times per week. It's now kept up front simply to keep individual customers from buying entire shipments at one time. I got a couple of boxes of Federal Match 22lr at $4 a pop. I may go back tomorrow and grab a few boxes of Monarch (I think it's the Academy house brand) 5.56 FMJ at $8 - only up $2 from the pre Sandy Hook price - and do a little target practice this weekend.

FYI, if I hadn't asked I'd have never noticed the ammunition at the front desk, which had been there all along. I just "ASSUMED" the store was out since it wasn't in the usual location. If you don't see it, ask for it and you may be in for a pleasant surprise.
