The way you measure bore dimensions is to drive a lead slug through the barrel. The slug is measured in grooves and on lands. The bullet for your revolver should drop freely from the chamber thru the forcing end of the cylinders chamber.

Yes, .431 should work. That said, I am assuming you are using a #2 alloy or WWs for casting your bullets. If you are loading Win. 296 or H110 you should be using a hard lube such as "Red Rooster" etc.

I would prefer a light dose of 2400. I like charges that fill the case if I happen to Dbl. charge one. The .44 Mag loaded with .44 Spec. brass at around 1,200 fps is a fantastic load.

i have seen that 2400 is very popular for magnum cartriges so maybe i should give it a shot. was hoping to keep things simple as far as the powders that i keep in stock (unique and i4198 for my .223s) but maybe i'll consider adding 2400 as well. looks like i'll be casting .357/.38 also. does 2400 work well with those?

YES! The .357 loves .2400. Try a 158 grs. SWC "Kieth" style bullet over a recommended charge of 2400. The 2400 will run just fine in your .44 .38 and .357.
