Sierra 168 grain MatchKing over 41.5 grains of Reloader 15. I use Winchester brass and primers.
This load is magical. |
Definitely go with reloader 15 powder and I also use 168 grain hornady match bullets and get excellent results.
|
I use 42gr of imr 3031 with a 150 Sierra matching hollow point and also with 150 gr hornady softpoints
|
All I can say is Wow!! Ditch the reloading section!! The experts just give reloading data here, with matching HP bullets!!!

I am curious why so many use 150gr? I do use some, such as Barnes TTSX. For most shooting or hunting 165..168gr just shoot more accurately at distance. At 100 yards both are outstanding, but after 200 yards the edge goes to the heavier bullets. RL15 is fairly slow for .308, 3031 is pretty fast. IMR 4064 is a great powder for .308. It produces fast velocity w/ very consistant groups. Most loads are compacted loads, but so are RL15 w/ no real advantage of MV. |
Some may use lighter bullets like 150 grain because there rifles have a slower twist rate. The rifles that have a faster barrel twist can stabilize and hand heavier bullets
