Default Federal Tactical Bonded / SOST Reloads

I would like to build .223 rounds that mimic the 62 gr Federal Tactical Bonded .223 or SOST 5.56. I thought this could be built using the Speer Trophy Bonded Bear Claw, but cannot find it in 62 grain .223 Rem. Suggestions?

Thanks.

I think the Speer TMJ 62gr 224 offering is the bullet your looking for. If I remember right this is a bullet that is electro plated so it is bonded.

The pictures of the Federal round shows it to have an exposed lead tip.

I believe the Trophy Bonded Bear Claw bullet in .224 was only available in 55gr. It has been discontinued as a loadable component. At $1 or more each they were not very popular.

Since Speer and Federal are both owned by ATK, they are probably keeping the technology "in house' to avoid competition. True bonded core bullets in .224 are going to be expensive to buy and hard to find.

Very helpful reminder of who owns whom. The Federal round is available in 55 and 62 gr, and the SOST is a 62 grain round, so that was the size I was looking for. Trying to assemble the poor man's SOST. Another brilliant idea goes down the tubes......
