Default Faceoff with a grizzly!

scenario: you are alone in the wilderness ans spot a bear. Unfortunately, it also spots you. The grizzly is 50 yards away and closing and you bravely/foolishly stand your ground. You have only one weapon, which cartridge would want by your side in this life or death situation? Please vote in the poll, but explanations are also welcome.

12 g. Slugs. Short range, transferred energy- big hole to let air in, blood out.
What we have here is... failure- to communicate.

1st choice - 12 ga. W/Ball & Buck rounds, one big hole and a handful of medium ones for each round.
2nd choice - .308/7.62 NATO, High capacity rifles available, I can get off a 20rd mag in the time it would take to reach me.

44 mag. Because that is what I carry in the woods. 6 shots as quick as I can pull the trigger.

06 or 12 ga (slugs). I would prefer not to have to rely on a handgun in this situation, if all else fails I can use the longgun as a club or even a crutch to limp away for help.

Givin the list, I would opt for the 12 ga. with slugs. If I had another choice, it would be a 45-70 Lever gun (first choice)...

I agree with the .45-70. My first choice as well. 12 ga slug is too soft and frangible to reliably down a bear. Maybe my Saiga with 10 rd mag full of slugs. I would plan on expending most of the 10 rounds. My .30-06 Rem 7400 Carbine w/10 round mag and red dot will suffice even for close quarters bears.
In life, strive to take the high road....It offers a better field of fire.
