Default Does this wildcat exist?

Just wondering if anyone has ever necked down the .257 Roberts (or 6mm Remington or 7x57 Mauser as they are all based on the same case) to .22 caliber? I guess there is no reason for it as it would probably perform about the same as the .22/250. It might even be closer to the .220 Swift. But if anyone did, the brass would be easy to make out of 6 mm brass. It might, however, be an interesting experiment if no one has ever done it.

22-6mm rem is out there. You get maybe 800 shots out of a barrel.

Thanks gunnut07. I had a feeling that it did exist, I just can't remember ever reading about it. For me, it just seems a little over bore and I'm sure it would be one heck of a barrel burrner outer.

The 224 Clark is basically a 257 Roberts necked down to 22 and then fireformed to increase the shoulder to a steeper angle and blows out the case somewhat for increased powder capacity. Had one for a while but it involved turning the necks and fireforming so went to a 220 Swift Ackley Improved instead. However, the Clark would push a 80 grain out at 3400-3500 FPS and it was accurate.

Any case that has been on the market long has been wildcatted. I have 2 barrels for the 22-6mm at present. I also have 2 6-284 rifles, a 17 on the 221 Fireball case the 06 cased necked out to 411 and a few more. There are several of us out here that just have to tinker with everything.

Me and gunsmith mentor used a savage 110 bull barrel 223 and chambered it to take a 243 casing necked down to .223. He uses it out west on whistle pigs and yotes. Its a hellacious round. Only problem is having to shoot the longer/heavier bullets. Rounds like the black hills 65 grains and higher.

God didnt make all men equal colonel sam colt did
