Defensive Ammo
What's some of you guys favorite defensive rounds?
|
I going to be using Remington Golden Sabers, 9mm, 124gr +P.
|
Hornady Critical Defense
Hornady Critical Duty Mcnett Douletap |
For semi-automatic pistols, I prefer any of the major 'premium' loadings, like Hornady Critical Whatever or Federal Hydra-Shok or Winchester Silver Tip.
For revolvers, I prefer all lead, flat fronted bullets loaded to the upper end of the safe pressure zone. For that matter, if I can find a good SWC lead bullet that will feed nicely in my autoloaders, I'm not above using those. They're not so hard to find in .45, and nearly impossible in .40. |
Anybody ever got ahold to any Winchester Ranger T ammo?

That's my primary 9MM carry ammo. 127 GR +P+ jhp. For other calibers, I usually carry Remington +P Golden Sabres. |
You are going to get as many answers as there are defensive cartridges out there, so why not go to brassfetcher.com, who actually test these bullets, and make your own decision? From their test and then conducting tests of my own I decided Federal Guard Dog is my bullet of choice in both my 9mm and 45 ACP.

I am using Fiocchi hollow point .45 as my defensive ammo
|
Actually, ANY of the premium defensive loads from the major manufacturers will do the job.
Whether your load is "rated" at 85 percent, or whether it's "rated' at 90 percent isn't going to mean spit in a gunfight. What matters is who gets the first solid hit, and where it's placed. |

There is less than 5% difference in the performance of the 'best' defense ammo from 9 to 45, so find the one which gives you 100% reliability in your PPD and you are there!;) My personal preference is a 9mm with the Win 127 gr +p+! |
